COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio State football team opens the season Sept. 2 at Minnesota. We are counting down the best 50 players Ohio State will face on that 2021 schedule. Today, Michigan State’s Jacub Panasiuk:

No. 31: Jacub Panasiuk, defensive end, Michigan State

6-foot-4, 250 pounds, redshirt senior

2020 stats: 25 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, one sack and one pass break up.

What he has done: Panasiuk was Michigan State’s only returning starter on the defensive line last season in the first year under Mel Tucker. While he looked primed for a breakout year after a solid offseason, he became a victim of COVID-19 and was never truly ever able to recover. He lost 25 pounds before the season began and was never able to reached expectations.

“I didn’t think I performed the way that I should have,” Panasiuk told reporters after the season. “And I thought it was unfair to me and my teammates if I just got up and left when I could use another year and come back and help out the team.”

Now he’ll look to get back to the level he was at in 2019 when he recorded 34 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.

How he can hurt Ohio State: Panasiuk has yet to record a sack in three games against Ohio State and has only managed to record five tackles. Three of which came in 2019. It won’t be easy for him to finally get that sack when the Spartans come to Columbus in late April.

He’ll match up with Thayer Munford and Nichols Petit-Frere who’ve proven to be among the best offensive tackle duos in the country.

Game date: Nov. 20, Ohio Stadium
