Jackson County deputies have arrested an Emporia woman on suspicion of fraudulent activity.

Sheriff Tim Morse says deputies conducted a traffic stop west of Mayetta around 8 am Sunday after a deputy observed a car belonging to what Morse calls a wanted fugitive. During the stop, 41-year-old Jessica Marie Moreno was taken into custody on a Jackson County theft warrant while a K-9 alerted on possible narcotics inside. Deputies then say they found various driver’s licenses, Social Security cards, passports, credit cards and various other identification cards, including some allegedly stolen during burglaries in Overland Park.

Moreno was booked into the Jackson County Jail on suspicion of identity theft, identity fraud, methamphetamine possession, possession of a hallucinogenic drug, possession of drug paraphernalia and the Jackson County warrant. Formal charges are pending.

Morse says the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Police Department helped on the arrest.

Local authorities have not said whether Moreno’s arrest clears two other fraud investigations announced over the last three weeks, including fraudulent check activity in Emporia and Salina as part of one investigation and fraudulent purchases in Manhattan and Topeka in the other.
