FOR CURRENT EVACUATION INFORMATION, residents are advised to monitor Facebook pages for Pinal County Sheriff’s Office: https://www.facebook.com/PinalCountySO and Gila County Health and Emergency Management: https://www.facebook.com/gilacohealthem Notifications can change rapidly. Residents in areas affected by the fire should remain vigilant and be prepared to evacuate. Evacuation notifications are issued when danger is imminent and life threatening.
Today firefighters continued to monitor and mop up the fire perimeter along U.S. Route 60 and near the Top-Of-The-World community. We are reminding motorists traveling in the area to be alert for the presence of firefighters and large firefighting vehicles in the U.S. Route 60 corridor. Fire in the Pinal/Signal Peak area is advancing both north and south. Fire activity is increasing due to hotter and drier conditions. Small firing operations may be initiated around nightfall to keep fire edges even, facilitating a controlled spread of the fire. Mastication is complete along Pioneer Pass Road.
Firefighters continue to prepare an alternative fire line along Doak Road, south of Signal Peak and are constructing a contingency fire line near El Capitan, using roads, hose lays, and chainsaw crews. A Firewatch Cobra helicopter is being used for infrared detection of threats to containment lines. Team 2 asks the public to refrain from delivering food and other donations to the fire camp. We cannot legally accept donations. If you wish to help, we recommend contacting local agencies who can utilize your donations.
Residents can return to their homes as the evacuation status for Top-Of-The-World, Oak Flat, Miami, Central Heights, Six Ice and Claypool has been returned to “Set.” Evacuation status for Superior, Globe, Pinto/Carlotta and the Battle Axe area has been returned to “Ready.”
