Motorcyclist killed in accident on I-85 that shut down highway for hours - WSB Atlanta

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — All lanes of I-85 southbound and several northbound lanes were shut down due to a bad crash at Lawrenceville-Suwanee road Saturday afternoon.

Suwanee police told our partners at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that a motorcyclist slammed into the back of an SUV in the northbound HOV lane near the Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road exit. The impact launched the rider and the bike over the median wall and into the southbound lanes.

Some lanes reopened around 5 p.m. but heavy delays remained Saturday evening.

The crash happened Saturday after 2 p.m.

Traffic was backed up for miles. Georgia State Patrol asked drivers to avoid the area.

Police have not released the identity of the victim or said if anyone is facing charges.
