When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a gas leak. Officials say the leak comes from a break in a large gas main between eight and 10 inches in diameter.
Power was cut to nearly 615 people in the area to ensure there is no hazard to residents or businesses in the area. Residents have not had to be evacuated, but some currently closed businesses have. Power was being restored to the area around 5:45 a.m. Thursday.
The fire was contained underneath the bridge and did not pose a threat to the safety of anyone or any buildings. Firefighters allowed the gas spilling from the main to burn off in the fire instead of spreading to the area.
