A Spring Branch Independent School District teacher has found herself on the other side of discipline following a class activity that many students say left them feeling very uncomfortable.
As part of "Warmup #5," the Stratford High School English teacher showed students a photo of late rapper Tupac Shakur alongside a quote and a question that students and family members alike still can't believe: “How is the word n----- complicated? How has it changed?”

Two students shared their grievances with KTRK-13's Jessica Willey, saying it "it wasn't the right thing to do" and "she could have worded it differently." And they weren't the only ones who felt directly affected.
“That word didn’t need to come up on any screen, with any children of any color,” said grandparent Mary Daly, as reported by KPRC2's Rose-Ann Aragon. “A thinking human is all you have to be. You don’t have to be any color to understand that that was completely wrong of [the teacher] to do.”
Daly said she got tears in her eyes when she learned of the activity from her granddaughter, who was present in the class at the time.
While this incident is gaining attention across Texas, Stratford alumni Marcel McClinton tweeted that this isn't the first time the teacher has exhibited racism — but nothing was ever done about it in the past.
"My heart sank and my jaw dropped," said McClinton, as reported by Willey. "It makes me feel very embarrassed to have her as a teacher and to have graduated from Stratford High School. I feel as though Black and brown students in her classroom are not respected or valued and I know that personally, because I had her as a teacher for a whole year."

Spring Branch ISD confirmed in a statement that the teacher has been placed on administrative leave "given concerns with the professional judgment in her lesson planning and delivery during a warm-up activity," as reported by Aragon, adding that the district "does not condone and will not accept" inappropriate and offensive language.
