The California Highway Patrol shut down a five-mile section of CA-17 for an hour Saturday afternoon after something shattered the windows of two cars, including a police patrol car.
No injuries were reported from the incidents that started around 12:40 p.m. when the CHP received a call of a shattered window on Highway 17 near Alta Vista Lane. After the CHP vehicle arrived, one of its windows was shattered as well, the Highway Patrol said in a news release.
The shutdown lasted about one hour and the highway was reopened around 2:18 p.m. Saturday. The CHP announced on Twitter it had shut down the highway in both directions from Summit Road to Sugarloaf Road, near Scotts Valley.
The CHP said the highway was closed “out of an abundance of caution for public safety.”
The local news station KSBW reported authorities were investigating a shooting on the freeway. The CHP news release doesn’t state the suspected cause of either window shattering.
