45-0 Cajuns FINAL
It was a beautiful Fall afternoon in Southwest Louisiana.
Tailgates and RVs everywhere you look, a parade rolling through campus and down to the stadium, and a crazy crowd of nearly 30,000 poured into Cajun Field for Homecoming.
The icing on the cake? Louisiana dominated their opponent in a 45-0 victory on national TV.
Levi Lewis was efficient, going 22-32 for 228 yards and 3 TDs. With that third touchdown today, Lewis (65 career TDs) broke Louisiana’s career passing touchdowns record held by Jake Delhomme for nearly 30 years.
The Louisiana defense was phenomenal as well, holding Texas State to 205 total yards and forced three Bobcat turnovers. Percy Butler was electric in the Cajun secondary, getting six tackles, but will miss the first half of Thursday’s game with Georgia State after a questionable targeting call early in the 2nd half. Lorenzo McCaskill was the leading tackler for Louisiana with 7.
Chris Smith was the leading Cajuns rusher, racking up 70 yards and a score on nine carries. Senior RB TJ Wisham, who was also elected Homecoming king today, also found the endzone today in a game the Cajuns dominated from start to finish.
Despite their offensive woes, Texas State did outgain Louisiana on the ground by a margin of 178-165. Junior quarterback Tyler Vitt ran for a new career high of 94 yards on 15 carries. That being said, Vitt completed just six passes for 42 yards. Texas State now falls to 2-1 this season when rushing for more yards than passing.
Louisiana now leads the all-time series with Texas State 9-0 dating back to 2013.
Louisiana (7-1, 5-0 SBC) has a short turn around, hosting Georgia State at home in 5 days. Texas State (2-6, 1-3 SBC) host ULM next Saturday in San Marcos.
