Local grocery stores see increased pre-Easter activity - WGEM

QUINCY (WGEM) -- Easter looked very different last year with many families across the Tri-States holding only small gatherings but with virus restrictions on the wane and vaccination numbers on the rise, local grocery stores said they saw a lot more people spending their Saturday preparing for bigger gatherings.

Butcher Block owner Dan Veihl said the flow in his store was ramped up tremendously compared to last years pre-Easter period.

"We've had a really good holiday," he said. "I think everybody's ready for this to start happening."

Veihl said it's nice to see more customers in the door and he's noticing different shopping trends this Easter.

"Bigger cuts of meal selling, there's bigger hams selling," he said. "Last year it was everyone was staying at their own houses so it was a lot of steaks.

Shopper David Rezba said he's prepared to put some fresh meat on the grill for the holiday.

"We just butchered a hog so it's going to be pretty easy," he said. But I like to buy a lot of stuff here. I like the owner, he's real nice."

Rezba said he and his family still plan on keeping their family gathering to a minimum to stay safe.

"We'll still be the same until things show better," he said.
