Emmy Snubs: 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' Shut Out of Major Categories - Hollywood Reporter

Other multi-nominated series that failed to win any awards in Sunday night's telecast include 'Insecure,' 'The Good Place,' 'What We Do in the Shadows' and 'Dead to Me.'

Not everyone was a winner at tonight's Emmys.

With Schitt's Creek's comedy category sweep, awards favorite The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was shut out of the major categories handed out during the ABC broadcast. Two years ago, the Amazon series had won outstanding comedy series, and also saw trophies go to stars Rachel Brosnahan and Alex Borstein and creator Amy Sherman-Palladino. Last year, Maisel lost the top comedy prize to another Amazon show, Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Fleabag — but still had a strong showing in the acting categories, with stars Tony Shalhoub, Borstein, Jane Lynch and Luke Kirby all winning. This year, the only trophies the series took home were for music supervision and period/character makeup, both of which were presented in the five-night Creative Arts ceremonies.

NBC's recently-wrapped Mike Schur comedy The Good Place was also completely shut out in its final outing, despite nominations for best comedy series, best comedy writing and actors Ted Danson, William Jackson Harper, D'Arcy Carden and Maya Rudolph. Similarly, HBO's Insecure — which had racked up eight nominations, including ones for the top comedy prize and for stars Issa Rae and Yvonne Orji — went home empty-handed on Sunday night. (Insecure did win an award at the Creative Arts ceremonies.) The same was true for FX's What We Do in the Shadows (eight nominations), HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm and Netflix's Dead to Me (four noms each) and The Kominsky Method (three).

On the drama side, HBO's Succession snatched up several trophies — including outstanding drama series, writing for a drama, best drama actor and best directing for a drama — leaving a number of other strong contenders left out. Ozark star Julia Garner snagged an award for her performance, but the Netflix show (produced by MRC Television, which shares a parent company with The Hollywood Reporter) was otherwise shut out, despite the fact that Jason Bateman and Laura Linney were both frontrunners in their acting categories. Linney's category went to Euphoria's 24-year-old Zendaya, while Bateman lost to Succession's Jeremy Strong, who himself beat out his co-star Brian Cox. Among the other dramas up for contention that failed to get recognized in the major categories presented Sunday night: The Crown, Better Caul Saul, Handmaid's Tale, Stranger Things and Killing Eve.
