UPDATE: Both sides of the highway reopened shortly after 7 a.m.

A section of Route 15 in Adams and York counties is completely closed to traffic early Wednesday after a reportedly suicidal man fired at Pennsylvania State Police, authorities said.

According to 511PA, the northbound lanes are closed at Latimore, Mountain and County Line roads in Latimore Township, Adams County. The southbound lanes are closed between Franklin Church Road, Range End Road and exit 94 to Hanover and York Springs.

State police said the confrontation between troopers and Gregory Kalinyak, 51, of Gaithersburg, Maryland began around 12:19 a.m. with an attempted traffic stop on Route 15 north in Latimore Twonship.

When his Chevy pick-up was stopped with spike strips, Kalinyak got out, shot at police and ran into a nearby wooded area, according to an early morning state police briefing live-streamed by FOX 43.

Kalinyak was found and taken into custody around 2:13 a.m., state police said. No one said no one was injured and there is no danger to the public; however, people are asked to avoid the area, state police said.

A PennDOT spokesperson was not immediately available to provide additional information.
