FAIRHAVEN (CBS) – A shark sighting forced Fairhaven Police to shut down all the beaches in town Saturday afternoon as a precaution.
They said a shark was spotted off Hacker Street Beach just after 1 p.m.
As a result, they closed that beach and the three others in Fairhaven – Fort Phoenix, Sconticut Neck and West Island.
Fairhaven Police did announce early Saturday evening that the town is expected to reopen beaches Sunday morning, as long as the area is clear of shark sightings.
Everyone in the area is asked to stay out of the water while the Fairhaven Harbor Master and New Bedford Police Marine Unit patrol the area.
