PG&E could shut off power in portions of Napa County on Sunday and Monday - San Francisco Chronicle

Pacific Gas & Electric Co. has expanded the area of possible fire-prevention power shut-offs Sunday and Monday to include portions of Napa County.

Utility officials said 181 customer accounts in Napa County could be impacted by the potential shutoff, which could impact roughly 97,000 total customers in portions of 15 counties in the Northern Sierra and North Valley areas.

The zones PG&E added to its power shut-off warnings cover large portions of Northern California, including Alpine, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, El Dorado, Kern, Lake, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Tehama and Yuba counties. The warnings do not specify which portions of the zones could be affected. “The anticipated scope and timing of this event has changed from earlier announcements, based on updated weather forecasts that showed stronger wind gusts in a larger portion of PG&E’s service area,” PG&E officials said in a statement shortly before 5 p.m. Friday.

Previously, PG&E had said that Butte, Plumas and Yuba counties could see power outages during that time frame, as the utility aims to prevent equipment that could be damaged in high winds from sparking wildfires.
