Sunday was another day for goal-filled Serie A action with Juventus closing on the top five just one of several storylines to emerge. Massimiliano Allegri's men disposed of Genoa CFC yet are still significantly off the UEFA Champions League pace. Meanwhile, Hellas Verona improbably came out on top of a seven-goal thriller when they were 3-0 down away from home inside of 30 minutes. Lazio also produced a first-half masterclass in their win over Sampdoria while there were goals galore between Bologna and Fiorentina, too, as Vincenzo Italiano's men kept up the pace with Juve.

We recap the best of Sunday's calcio action.

Juventus 2, Genoa 0

Genoa's new boss did not see his luck change in Turin with Juve running out 2-0 winners, which saw Juan Cuadrado open the scoring inside of 10 minutes direct from a corner kick before Paulo Dybala made the game safe late on. Grifone are now winless since early September as the American-owned club's woes deepen toward the foot of the table.

Venezia 3, Verona 4

After 27 minutes, the home side was flying at 3-0 up and it was a question of whether it could add to that tally rather than whether or not Verona could salvage anything from the game. Pietro Ceccaroni, Domen Crnigoj and Thomas Henry all tallied yet the Frenchman's next strike at the wrong end shortly after halftime set off an unwanted reaction. Gianluca Caprari and Giovanni Simeone scored within minutes of each other to level before the Argentine added an unbelievable late winner to keep Igor Tudor's men looking upwards toward Europe.

Bologna 2, Fiorentina 3

Viola remain in the shake-up for Europe after coming out on top in another high-scoring affair with Dusan Vlahovic once more on target. Youssef Maleh gave the Tuscans the lead in the first half, but Musa Barrow had the hosts level before the break. Cristiano Biraghi and Vlahovic's penalty had the visitors up by two before Aaron Hickey cut the deficit late on to keep Italiano's men rolling.

Sampdoria 1, Lazio 3

Roberto d'Aversa may have led Blucerchiati for the last time after a blitz from Maurizio Sarri's Biancocelesti in the opening 45 minutes. Ciro Immobile scored twice after Sergej Milinkovic-Savic had opened the scoring before Manolo Gabbiadini grabbed the scantest of consolation goals for Sampdoria, who are still just five points from safety despite a recent rally as Lazio level with AS Roma.

Spezia 2, Sassuolo 2

Giacomo Raspadori hit a second-half double to save Sassuolo from falling to defeat against Spezia to keep up their record of dropping points after beating some of Serie A's big boys. Rey Manaj and Emanuel Gyasi had put Thiago Motta's men in front before that late brace, but Alessio Dionisi's side keep straddling the middle of the table.
