The Pitt women’s soccer team faced No. 4 Duke at Koskinen Stadium on Sunday afternoon, and unfortunately for the Panthers, they were shut out by the Blue Devils in decisive fashion 5-0.

Blue Devils defender Katie Groff put her team on the board in the ninth minute and then scored again three minutes later to make it 2-0, Duke. That score would remain intact at halftime, but the Blue Devils would add to their lead in the second half.

Five minutes into the second half, Blue Devils forward Tess Boade extended Duke’s lead to 3-0. And five minutes later, Blue Devils forward Michelle Cooper tacked on another to make it 4-0. And for a time, it seemed that would go down as the final score. But in the last minute, Blue Devils forward Marykate McGuire added another goal to put Duke up 5-0.

The loss was the Panthers’ third in a row as well as the second straight shutout the team was dealt in ACC play, and it dropped them to 8-6 overall and 1-5 in conference. As for the Blue Devils, they improved to 9-2-1 overall and 3-2-1 in conference. Pitt’s next challenge will be another road matchup with Syracuse. That game is set to kick off from SU Soccer Stadium at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday.
