WAHPETON – Jaxson Lund and Nash Mitchell recorded hat tricks in leading the Park Rapids-Menahga-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team to an 11-0 win over Breckenridge/Wahpeton at the Stern Sports Arena on Thursday, Jan. 20.
Lund had a natural hat trick by scoring the game’s first three goals with Mitchell assisting on all three. Lund opened the scoring 1:28 into the game and scored a power-play goal at the 3:22 mark. Joey Hillukka also assisted on that goal. Lund’s shorthanded goal at the 7:07 mark was followed by another shorthanded goal by Hillukka 11 seconds later. Coby Hagen assisted on that goal. Jeron Pinoniemi set up Liam Torola at the 10:57 mark as the Panthers led 5-0 after the first period.
A four-goal second period pushed the lead to 9-0. After Hillukka scored at the 6:38 mark, Lund set up a pair of goals by Mitchell at the 12:30 and 15:57 marks. Quincy Jantz also had an assist on Mitchell’s second goal. Pinoniemi and Reed Sharp assisted on a goal by Shad Torola at the 15:04 mark.
Goals by Mitchell and Shad Torola concluded the scoring in the third period. Pinoniemi assisted on Mitchell’s goal at the 11:50 mark while Shad Torola scored with 3:00 to play.
Goalie Collin Hoyt earned the shutout by making seven saves as the Panthers, who defeated B/W 8-2 on Dec. 14, improved to 7-8 on the season.

The Blade, who were outshot 30-11, fell to 0-12 on the season. B/W has been held scoreless eight times while being outscored 96-9 this season.
