A rockslide inside Zion National Park at the Narrows on Wednesday afternoon closed the park’s busiest trail and spurred a rescue operation.
Park rangers responded to an injured hiker in the Narrows and anticipated having to transport the person to a hospital, officials said in a news release.
Rockfall is a frequent occurrence in the Utah park famous for its towering sandstone formations and sheer canyon walls.
At about 1 p.m. Wednesday, rocks collapsed into a stretch of Zion Canyon beyond the end of the park road. Officials closed not just the Narrows, but also the Riverside Walk, a heavily used paved path along the Virgin River.
This is a developing story that will be updated.
