The Laramie County Juvenile Services Center cut the ribbon on a new project this week.

“We wanted to do something for the youth in the community that come to the crisis centers. Our kids, a lot of them have a difficult time talking but if you get them out doing something they’ll start to open up,” said Jamie Eaton, Crisis Care Coordinator.

The project started in January 2020, is an outdoor activity center designed as a physical outlet for troubled kids aged 10 to 17 years old.

Youths housed at the crisis center come in due to family disturbances, running away, or trouble with foster care.

Kids are also joined with a team of Case Workers, Department of Family Services, Counselors, and service groups, to help them transition through a difficult period.

“All of the support we’ve had from the community with Youth Service , Youth Alternatives and juvenile Judges here in town has just been a blessing. We’ve been able to bring this to fruition, and going forward I see it being a main stay for the children,” said Captain Don Hollingshead, Laramie County Sheriff’s Department Detention.

The Sheriff’s Department funded the project by maintaining an inmate commissary account through the county.
