Due to expected warmer temperatures, the Devil’s Knob Complex may have an increase in fire activity.

An update from the Pacific Northwest Team 2 said the increase would be within the unburned or “green” patches of fuel in the interior. That increase in activity should not threaten containment lines but crews will continue to monitor and patrol the fire perimeters. Despite these persistent hot and dry conditions, seasonal weather changes are helping to moderate fire behavior.

Crews will continue to monitor the scattered heat in the Quartz Creek drainage on the east flank of the Smith Fire.  Helicopters are assigned to the incident to help cool hot spots if increased fire activity is observed. Hazard tree removal work is continuing along Forest Road 28. Multiple chippers are being used around the fire area to eliminate the piles of woody debris left from fire line construction.

The Devil’s Knob Complex remains at 69,937 acres. The Big Hamlin Fire is still 100 percent contained at 19,377 acres while the Smith Fire is still at 49,067 acres, with containment remaining at 28 percent.
