Park Rapids stranded 14 runners on base against W-DC, which scored three runs in the second inning and single runs in the fifth, sixth and eighth innings.

The Esox managed only four hits, but drew seven walks and had two hit batters while striking out 12 times.

Jason Haas and Riley Massie led off the first inning with walks. Hass walked in the third. Clayton Gallus singled and John Massie and Brendan Kruchowski walked in the fourth as the Esox left the bases loaded. Riley Massie singled, Ty Karger reached on an error and Gallus walked to load the bases with one out in the fifth. John Massie singled and Kruchowski was hit by a pitch to lead off the sixth. Karger walked to lead off the seventh. John Massie was hit by a pitch to lead off the eighth. Karger singled with one out in the ninth.

Gallus started and took the loss as the Esox were shut out for only the second time this season.

Park Rapids improved to 5-8 on the season when Perham couldn’t field enough players and had to forfeit.

The Esox will end the regular season by traveling to Wolf Lake on Saturday (July 31) and hosting Sebeka on Sunday (Aug. 1) in a pair of Lake & Pine League games. Both games start at 1:30 p.m.

The Esox overcame an early 6-1 deficit to force extra innings before Nimrod prevailed 7-6 in 10 innings in a Lake & Pine League game at Menahga on July 16.

Nimrod took a 1-0 lead in the first off Park Rapids starter Derek Lindow before the Esox tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a single by Isaiah Olson, an error and a single by TJ Erickson.

The Gnats pushed across five runs in the second for a 6-1 lead, but didn’t score again until the 10th as Lindow and Erickson combined to pitch seven scoreless innings.

Park Rapids mounted a comeback starting in the seventh when Zach Hocking and Karger walked, Jaxson Lund was hit by a pitch, and Haas singled.

The Esox tied the game in the ninth on walks to Haas and Erickson and singles by Olson and Nick Jasmer before Nimrod scored the winning run in the 10th.

Olson went 3 for 5 and Erickson went 2 for 4 as Park Rapids finished with eight hits. Lindow allowed six runs on five hits with six strikeouts over 7 ⅓ innings while Erickson took the loss in relief after giving up one run with four strikeouts over 2 ⅔ innings. The Esox fell to 3-5 in Lake & Pine League games.

Nimrod defeated the Esox 15-5 on May 16.

Midway improved to 7-2 in Lake & Pine League play and 11-3 overall with wins over Staples and Verndale and a loss to New York Mills.

The Snurdbirds defeated Staples 7-4 in a league game at Menahga on July 9, dropped a 7-1 decision at New York Mills on July 16, and defeated Verndale 12-2 at Menahga on July 18.
