New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom has suffered a setback in his return from injury and is being shut down for at least two weeks with right elbow inflammation, the team said Friday. DeGrom was placed on the injured list on July 18 (retroactive to July 15) with tightness in his forearm.
Mets general manager Zack Scott said a September return is the best-case scenario for the two-time Cy Young winner. DeGrom had an MRI Friday which showed no structural damage.
DeGrom has a MLB-best 1.08 ERA this season, with 146 strikeouts in 92 innings.
