Auburn’s season came to the end of the road Saturday in the Tallahassee Regional.

The Tigers’ bats fell silent, mustering just one hit as second-seeded Auburn was shut out, 1-0, in a loss to fourth-seeded Kennesaw State in the losers’ bracket of the Tallahassee Regional. It marked the seventh time this season the Tigers were shut out.

Auburn’s lone hit came from the bat of Makenna Dowell, who led off the second inning with a single. The Tigers were unable to move her across the base paths, going down in order after her leadoff hit. Auburn only had two other base-runners on the afternoon, both in the form of walks.

Alyssa Rivera drew a two-out walk in the third, but Tyler King grounded out to short to end the inning. Dowell reached again in the fourth on a walk with one out, but two batters later she was caught stealing to end the inning.

Those were the only base-runners Auburn got against Kennesaw State’s Melanie Bennett, who struck out a pair while tossing a complete-game shutout. While Bennett was stellar in the circle for Kennesaw State, she got just enough support from the Owls’ lineup, which scratched across a run in the bottom of the first against Tigers’ pitcher Shelby Lowe. Lowe surrendered a leadoff double to Brea Dickey, and then a single by Christen Florence put runners on the corners with no outs. Following a walk to load the bases, Taylor Cates hit into a double-play that scored Dickey from third.

Auburn was unable to overcome the early one-run deficit, as it was swept out of the Tallahassee Regional and saw its season end with a 27-24 record.
