Red Sox pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez will not pitch this season, Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom announced Saturday.
While Rodriguez hasn’t tested positive for COVID-19 since early July, he said last week that he’s battling myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle. The team said the condition stemmed from his battle with coronavirus and that the situation hasn’t improved since.
Bloom told reporters that the team is optimistic that Rodriguez will make a full recovery, but the team is taking a cautious approach.
“This is not something you want to mess around with,” Bloom said.
The team said Rodriguez’s heart is functioning normally and that he will return to Florida and Boston as needed for checkups.
