UKRAINIAN VILLAGE — At least two infrastructure projects will begin in Ukrainian Village this year, with at least one project temporarily shutting down various residential streets.
In late August the Department of Water Management will begin work on 1,287 feet of a new sewer main. The old main needed to be replaced, Ald. Brian Hopkins (2nd) said in an email newsletter.
The installation will take place at the following locations:
- Oakley Boulevard from Augusta Boulevard to Cortez Street
- Cortez Street, west and east of Oakley Boulevard
- Thomas Street, west of Oakley Boulevard
- Haddon Avenue, west of Campbell Avenue
“No Parking” signs will be posted as needed during work hours, which are 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Parking outside those hours will be allowed, but cars will need to be moved by the start of the next work day, Hopkins said.
The Department of Water Management will provide a 24-hour notice if workers have to temporarily interrupt your water service to transfer water to the new main, Hopkins said. Click here for instructions on how to flush out your water system if this happens.
Ald. Brian Hopkins (2nd) / ProvidedIn mid-September, Peoples Gas will begin a series of improvement projects along Leavitt Street, from just south of Chicago Avenue to just north of Iowa Street. This work is expected to be completed next April, Hopkins said.
The projects include the installation of new mains and other work involving both the street itself as well as sidewalks. It’s not yet clear how the People’s Gas projects will impact residents in terms of parking constraints.
