FAYETTE COUNTY, Tenn. — People traveling between Memphis and Jackson, Tennessee ran into a Thanksgiving travel nightmare on Wednesday.
Westbound traffic on I-40 between Memphis and Jackson was shut down due to a crash, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT).
TDOT said the crash happened around 1:07 p.m., closing all westbound traffic on the interstate in Fayette County.
FOX13 viewers sent in pictures of 18-wheelers in the median and emergency vehicles blocking off I-40.
The Fayette County EMA said that eastbound traffic had reopened in the eastbound lanes but was moving slowly as of 5:10 p.m. At that time, all westbound traffic was still closed and being detoured.
