The Pittsburg Penguins (17-9-1) win a second game in a row over Buffalo (6-16-4) at KeyBank Center as the Sabres fail to find the back of the net for the fifth time this season and the third time in the last ten games.
Buffalo, planning to be without Jack Eichel for a majority of the rest of the season, shuffled lines and put together a physical game plan to slow down a very active Pittsburg team. Unfortunately, if outhitting your opponent 24 to eight does not lead to good scoring chances, it does not help. The Sabres continue to fail to be able to generate offense and miss the net often when they do.

Pittsburg held Buffalo to just four shots from the slot all night. Casey DeSmith cut down the angles well to shut out the Sabres, finishing the night with saves on all 24 shots on net. Jake Guentzel tallied the game winner for the Penguins near the end of the second period as he was left alone in front of the net on the power play. Sidney Crosby and Mark Jankowski finished the game off with a empty net goal each during the last minute of play.

Overall, the defense was able to keep the pressure outside and Carter Hutton played a solid game to keep the Sabres in the it most of the way. Hutton finished with a .969 with 31 saves on 32 shots and had his best looking game of the season earning the third star of the game. Not being supported offensively wasted the effort and added to the frustration level.

Buffalo will look to relieve some of the frustration as they face off against the Washington Capitals at KeyBank Center in Buffalo Monday night at 7:00 PM.
