The Cleveland Browns added another wide receiver on Saturday, bringing in Michael Woods from Oklahoma in the sixth round
Before the draft, there were reports that the Cleveland Browns could still be looking to bring back veteran wideout Jarvis Landry. That became less of an option when they added David Bell in the third round and after adding Michael Woods in Round 6, the door might be shut on Landry.
Bell, who didn’t test incredibly well at the Combine, was a stud for the Purdue Boilermakers and could be the No. 3 option with Amari Cooper as the top receiver and Donovan Peoples-Jones filling the second spot.
They also have Jakeem Grant who could be sharing time now with Woods, a transfer from Arkansas, Woods had 35 receptions for 400 yards and two touchdowns.
He’s not by any means a complete player but like Peoples-Jones, who was also added in Round 6 back in 2020, Woods has some traits to really appreciate. His speed is decent (4.55 in the 40-yard dash) and he runs very smooth routes — which is the same for players such as Cooper and Bell.
Woods also knows how to get back to the quarterback when he scrambles which is something that will likely happen a lot with three mobile quarterbacks under contract in Cleveland with Deshaun Watson, Jacoby Brissett, and Josh Dobbs.
Most importantly, he has the ability to get deep — something the Browns wide receivers really struggled with in 2021.
It appeared after the season Cleveland was going to completely overhaul their receiving corps and they appear to have done that in the draft. It also wouldn’t be surprising to see them add more help with undrafted free agents but it does feel as though the Landry ship has sailed.
