La Palma (Canary Islands (Spain)): Lava flow activity has decreased a bit compared to yesterday and especially the day before yesterday. Observers reported seeing less lava on the upper and central part of the flow field. At the vents, a series of loud explosions occurred early in the morning, at around 4 a.m. local time.
Casa Martin's very lively and interesting journal about the eruption (La Palma Aktuell) describes how these explosions were followed by a surge of lava from the westernmost summit vent, located above the vent that usually was the main source of visible lava effusion and liquid spattering, and the source of most of the recent surface lava flows starting at the cone. This time, the lava exited from a higher point, then traveled downslope towards the other vent and from there into the "usual" channel that forms a ravine, and channel, breaching the western slope of the cone, and is likely one of the start areas of the complex lava tube system.
