BIG RAPIDS – It’s the dead of summer, but also a good time to be outdoors as far as TV host Kyle Randall of Wilderness Journal said.

“Things are going well in the inland waters, and bass fishing has stabilized, especially largemouth,” Randall said. “We’ve had quite a bit of that. The smallmouth fishing is picking up. The big lakes, if the weather permits, it’s been good. I know they’re working on a couple of dams at the Muskegon River so the walleye fishing has been spotty.

“Below Croton, they’ve been able to catch a number of walleyes.”

When it comes to hunting, “everyone is trying to find out if they drew tags for various hunting trips and if you’re a fall turkey hunter and put in for the draw for tags. Results are coming back for turkey tags and bear tags,” Randall said. “The only other thing going on for hunting is right now when most people are making sure they have their different food plots placed in and their different sites cleaned up. It’s that time of year.”
