The NFL plans to halt all in-person activities at all its team facilities for two days in an effort to slow the surge in coronavirus cases among its teams, according to a report.
The surge in COVID-19 cases within the league mirrors the spike that is occurring in the nation, and the NFL is trying to slow the spread by shutting down team facilities for Monday, Nov. 30 and Tuesday, Dec. 1. According to the memo, the league was also concerned about the number of players who hosted out-of-town guests during the Thanksgiving holiday.
The league has seen a spike of COVID-19 cases as numerous players for various teams have been added to the reserve/COVID-19 list. In addition, the Baltimore Ravens have had placed at least 14 players on the list, including star quarterback Lamar Jackson, who reportedly tested positive for COVID-19. The outbreak inside the Ravens forced the NFL to move their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers from Thursday to Sunday and then to Tuesday, Dec. 1.
The NFL said the ban on in-person activities would not affect Ravens-Steelers game on Tuesday or the Seattle Seahawks’ game at the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night.
The Los Angeles Rams, Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals and Denver Broncos were among teams that have either made changes to their practice regimen or placed a place on the reserve/COVID-19 list due to recent surge in coronavirus cases.
