District 1 - Baudette area
CO Ben Huener (Roseau) assisted with training at the Conservation Officer Academy at Camp Ripley and checked anglers/boaters on Lake of the Woods and the Roseau River. Angling success on Lake of the Woods was fair while the Roseau River was poor due to the high water levels. Violations encountered included possession of an illegal-length walleye, juvenile operating a personal watercraft without training, and operating a PWC within one hour of sunset.
CO Marc Johnson (Warroad South) worked primarily angling activity on Lake of the Woods and ATV enforcement. In addition, he fielded numerous calls including nuisance-bear complaints and assisting the U.S. Department of Agriculture with successfully releasing a bear cub from a trap. Violations encountered included a variety of registration, safety equipment and license issues.
CO Aaron Larson (Baudette West) predominantly worked angling enforcement on Lake of the Woods. Larson discovered multiple walleye overlimits throughout the week while conducting regulatory checks on anglers. Other violations included failure to display watercraft registration, no angling license in possession, littering and failure to retain walleye carcasses to be readily countable and measurable on a special regulations lake.
CO Jeremy Woinarowicz (Thief River Falls West) responded to a nuisance-bear complaint, patrolled the Red River of the North with CO Hutchins and taught alcohol enforcement and compass navigation at the CO Academy. Enforcement action for the week included angling without a license, no life jackets on a watercraft, unregistered off-highway motorcycle and no helmet on a juvenile ATV passenger.
CO Demosthenes Regas (Blackduck South) reports working angling and boating activity on special regulation lakes throughout the past week. Time was spent working an Upper Red Lake enforcement detail, monitoring ATV trail use and investigating a wolf-depredation complaint. Regas conducted multiple commercial minnow dealer inspections with area Fisheries staff and Ecological and Water Resources AIS inspectors. Violations encountered and addressed included possession of protected slot northern pike and angling license and boating safety equipment violations.
CO Nicholas Prachar (Blackduck North) reports steady water-related activities on Upper Red Lake. Fishing success is slow but many anglers are fishing the lake. A lot of families are also enjoying other water recreation. Prachar responded to a TIP of ATVs operating in the water at a local public water access. When he responded to the area, he found two juveniles operating the ATVs in deep water. Prachar spoke with the parents of the youths and enforcement action was taken for allowing illegal operation of an ATV. Enforcement action was also taken on multiple boat and water safety violations.

District 2 - Bemidji area
CO Tom Hutchins (Crookston) reports spending the majority of this past week checking anglers and watercraft operators on area lakes and rivers. Time was also spent checking ATV operators. Various angling and boating violations were encountered.
CO Tim Gray (Bagley) handled nuisance-animal complaints and a wolf depredation in a neighboring station.
CO Brice Vollbrecht (Bemidji #1) monitored boating and angling activity on area lakes. Complaints of nuisance bears were taken. He worked boat and water details on Upper Red Lake. Numerous violations were detected and angling remains very good on most days.
CO Chris Vinton (Perham) reports assisting with Division of Enforcement training at Camp Ripley.
CO Jake Swedberg (Detroit Lakes) spent the week patrolling area lakes for fishing and boating activity. With the nice weather there were a lot of people out enjoying the lakes. Swedberg focused his enforcement efforts on jet ski violations over the past week and talked to a lot of juvenile operators about proper jet ski operation and safety when out in groups. Other time was spent following up on aquatic plant violations including those involving weed rollers and aqua thruster machines.
CO Al Peterson (Osage) assisted at the Academy, attended an emergency vehicle operations course and worked ATV enforcement. He also followed up on complaints of hydro jets operating illegally to control weeds and lake sediment.
CO Steve Chihak (Moorhead) spent the past week working sport fishing, AIS and ATV enforcement. Time was also spent at Camp Ripley assisting with training.
CO Angie Warren (Mahnomen) spent time on angling and boating activity. A call of a boat washed up on shore was investigated and the owner was located. Area trails were worked for off-road vehicle and ATV activity. Questions were answered about leeching, boating regulations and nuisance-bear activity.
CO Bill Landmark (Pelican Rapids) spent the week monitoring ATV, angling, and boat and water safety activity. The hot weather has led to an increase in recreational boating traffic and anglers are focusing on fishing more in the mornings and evenings. The panfish bite has picked up and anglers are still finding a few walleyes on a couple of the area lakes. Calls from the public included reports of nuisance bears, complaints of bow fishers, and reports of possible shoreline and vegetation violations. Landmark discussed regulations with area bow fishers during a tournament and observed good overall compliance. As the weeds begin to thicken on area lakes, Landmark would like to remind lakeshore owners to check into aquatic vegetation regulations and to make sure they are abiding by the regulations for operating weed-control devices. Enforcement action was taken for failure to obtain a burning permit and burning prohibited materials.
District 3 - Fergus Falls area
CO Tricia Plautz (Henning) assisted with Academy training this week at Camp Ripley. Plautz checked boaters, anglers, ATV operators and worked AIS (aquatic invasive species) enforcement. Fishing is good in the area and boaters are reminded they can renew boat registration online.
CO Troy Richards (Fergus Falls) reports concentrating efforts on fishing and boating. Richards worked with CO Jordan Anderson on Upper Red Lake over the weekend. Fishing success was spotty and boat safety compliance was excellent.
CO Daniel Baumbarger (Glenwood) reports enforcement efforts for the week were concentrated on checking anglers, boaters, and monitoring AIS law compliance. Additional time was spent on injured/orphaned animal calls and follow up on aquatic plant removal violations.
CO Emily Leeb (Morris) reports working fishing, ATV and fire enforcement. Enforcement action for the week included fishing without a license and burning without a permit.
CO Brian Holt (Osakis) checked boating safety and angling activity throughout the last week. Time was also spent following up on possible aquatic plant violations. Holt took recreational vehicle complaints and monitored AIS compliance in the area. Enforcement activity related mostly to angling and boating safety violations.
CO Hanna Wood (Wheaton) focused this week on angling and recreational vehicle enforcement. She took calls regarding a deer-possession tag, fishing in a closed area, minnow transport permits, and nuisance beaver. Wood assisted Traverse County in searching for a missing person as well as assisting boaters who got stranded on Lake Traverse. Enforcement action for the week included angling without a license, no sound-producing device on watercraft, life jacket required for children under 10, unregistered ATV and several youth ATV operation violations.
CO Shane Osborne (Evansville) checked anglers, boaters and ATV riders. EVOC training was attended at Camp Ripley. Questions about boating, ATV and firearms safety classes were received with no classes scheduled for the near future. Please check the DNR website for any announcements regarding the future scheduling of DNR safety education classes.
CO Mitch Lawler (Alexandria) reports heavy recreational water traffic on area lakes. Anglers are out in force as well with the fish cooperating at times. Additional time was spent following up on aquatic vegetation and shoreline alteration complaints/violations. A popular tubing spot along the Long Prairie River is being worked with multiple citations issued for litter and underage consumption of alcohol.
District 4 - Walker area
CO Randy Posner (Staples) worked on fishing enforcement this past week. The nice weather brought out a fair amount of anglers. He checked boaters and PWC operators on area lakes. PWC violations observed were driving too close to shore at faster than no-wake speed. Boating violations observed were no registration and insufficient PFDs. He received a complaint of bears getting into garbage cans and knocking over bird feeders. Some of the other complaints received were PWC operators chasing loons and boat operators causing damage with their wakes.
CO Calie Kunst (Remer) spent time working areas with high ATV activity in her station. ATV violations included failure to display valid registration, operating without headlights and children under 18 years old without helmets. Boating enforcement was also worked, and violations included angling without a license and operating watercraft without navigation lights. A littler complaint was also taken.
CO Jordan Anderson (Wadena) reports concentrating efforts on fishing and boating. Anderson worked with CO Troy Richards on Upper Red Lake over the weekend. Fishing success was spotty and boat safety compliance was excellent.
CO Jacque Hughes (Longville) continued to check angling, boating, and ATV activity. She responded to calls of an injured loon and a bear causing damage to property. She also assisted with a motorcycle vs. deer crash.
CO Mark Mathy (Cass Lake) checked anglers and recreational vehicle use. A deer-possession permit and nuisance-beaver permit were issued. Complaints about nuisance bears and dogs chasing deer were investigated. Enforcement action was taken for illegal-length northern pike, no angling license in possession, and ATV violations.
