CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Fox News host Laura Ingraham responded to critics on social media, who called her a hypocrite for defending Drew Brees’ right to speak about the flag, after she famously told LeBron James to “shut up and dribble” back in 2018.

During a segment on her show “The Ingraham Angle” Thursday, she initially chuckled about the “nuance between the two instances” before stating her revised stance on athletes speaking about topics beyond sports.

“Let me be very clear about what I believe: We are all children of God, regardless of our racial or political differences and therefore must be treated equally,” she said. “Every American, every American has the God-given right to speak his or her own mind on any issue. And I think in order to heal and shed light on gross injustices, our country needs more dialogue, not less. And we need more respect, not retribution.”

She continued, “Emotions are hot right now and unfortunately, in times like these, we often find ourselves, I know it’s easy to do, just talk past each other.

“But right now Americans, I think most of them, are looking for reconciliation. That means politicians, police, and even cultural figures all working together. All of us.”

Ingraham’s apparent 180 came after she responded on Wednesday’s show to the uproar over Brees saying he “will never agree” with NFL players who protest by kneeling during the national anthem. “He’s allowed to have his view... He’s a person, he has some worth,” she said.

Those comments were juxtaposed on Twitter with a segment from February 2018 in which she told James and Kevin Durant to “keep the political commentary to yourself” and “shut up and dribble” after the two criticized President Donald Trump.

The difference in Ingraham’s tone didn’t go unnoticed by James.

“If you still haven’t figured out why the protesting is going on. Why we’re acting as we are is because we are simply F-N tired of this treatment right here!”, he tweeted.

At the time of their original dustup, Ingraham said there was “no racial intent” in her remarks and explained “shut up and [blank]” was sort of her catch phrase. James responded by making a documentary about the history of the NBA and the influence of its players on social issues, politics and culture. It was called, you guessed it, “Shut Up and Dribble.”
