RICHMOND — Police said officers were responding to looting activity Monday night at Hilltop Mall.
According to social-media posts, groups of cars could be seen circling Hilltop Mall Road and Hilltop and Blume drives, with police cruisers following.
Police appeared to be coordinating roadblocks along the rim road circling the mall around 9:15 p.m., while a Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office helicopter could be seen circling overhead, according to a social-media account that monitors Bay Area flight activity.
“RPD officers are currently controlling the scene at Hilltop Mall after vandals and looters breached the property,” police said in a tweet just before 9:40 p.m. “Misinformation was disseminated by an unknown source regarding a shooting and an officer down. That information is false. We aim to report accurate information.”
Check back for updates.
I live just down the hill from Hilltop Mall and all I hear are helicopters, police sirens, and shooting….please be safe.
