Governor Gretchen Whitmer is calling on Enbridge to shut down the Line 5 pipeline after damage was discovered Thursday.
The damage was to an anchor support on the east leg of the dual pipeline.
The Line 5 pipeline runs under the Straits of Mackinac.
Right now one of the dual pipelines remains shut down.
On Thursday, Enbridge discovered significant damage to an anchor support on the east leg of the pipeline.
The company says they immediately shut down both the east and west leg of Line 5.
They say they investigated both legs and determined only the east leg was damaged.
They say they began running the west leg again Saturday.
Governor Whitmer says she was taken aback by that decision.
Whitmer says there is still no explanation for the damage to the east leg and is calling on Enbridge to immediately shut down the pipeline while the damage is investigated and preventative measures are put in place.
Enbridge says they are committed to sharing what they learn about the incident with the state.
