Liverpool, N.Y. -- A crash involving two tractor-trailers shut down the Thruway in both directions near Liverpool for nearly six hours Thursday, troopers said.
Around 5:30 p.m., police received reports of a crash involving two tractor-trailers inside a work zone on I-90 between exits 38 (Liverpool) and 39 (I-690/Fulton), according to a tweet from State Police.
Some motorists were stranded on the Thruway for around six hours, multiple people told syracuse.com | The Post-Standard.
The collision caused one of the tractor-trailers to roll over, troopers said. The damage blocked all lanes of the Thruway, they said.
The Moyers Corners Fire Department responded to assist with clearing hazards and hazmat containment efforts, according to its Facebook page.
Some lanes were cleared by 11:26 p.m., troopers said. Despite the diversions of traffic at exits 36 (I-81) and 39 (Liverpool) a traffic backup was not cleared until around 11:30 p.m., troopers said.
All lanes were not reopened until around 5 a.m. Friday, they said.
The drivers of the tractor-trailers suffered minor injuries, troopers said. The tractor-trailers sustained significant damage in the crash.
