ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – One person was killed and another was seriously injured Sunday morning in a crash on State Road 417 east of the Florida Turnpike, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers were dispatched at 2:53 a.m. to the crash at mile marker 14.5, records show. The crash forced the temporary closure of southbound lanes from Landstar Boulevard past Boggy Creek Road. As of 10 a.m., all southbound lanes were reopened, traffic cameras showed.

According to a crash report, a Mercedes-Benz — driven southbound by a 47-year-old Orlando man — struck the rear of a semitruck without a trailer in the outside lane. Witnesses said the man appeared to be driving faster than the posted speed limit, the report states.
The impact caused the semitruck to travel off of the roadway and strike a guardrail before overturning in an embankment, troopers said, while the front of the Mercedes-Benz struck a concrete barrier, causing the car to rotate and strike the guardrail with its rear.
The Orlando man was taken to a hospital with serious injuries and the driver of the semitruck was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report.
Troopers said the crash is still being investigated, and that the identity of the semitruck driver is pending as FHP awaits an update from the medical examiner’s office. Charges are pending against the Orlando man, the report states.
