Should the Lions shut down Matthew Stafford, Kenny Golladay? - prideofdetroit.com

The Detroit Lions are technically not out of playoff contention just yet. Yes, there is still a chance, though it will take a miracle and a half. At 5-8, all the Lions need to do is win the rest of their games and have a bunch of other teams lose. It’s not impossible, but with how unlikely their chances are, it’s worth considering whether guys like Matthew Stafford or Kenny Golladay should even set foot on the field for the rest of the year as they battle injuries.

As it stands, Golladay is already set to miss his seventh straight game against the Titans this week, and Stafford is questionable with a rib/thumb injury. Chase Daniel will likely start in place of Stafford in case he’s not ready to go.

The Titans are currently favored by 11 points over the Lions and that number could get worse for them if Stafford is confirmed out. The season is all but over, but the future for guys like Stafford and Golladay is still very unclear.

That leads us to today’s Question of the Day...

Should the Lions shut down Matthew Stafford and/or Kenny Golladay for the rest of the year?

My answer: Yes. You might as well.

If Golladay is healthy at any point, I don’t think it’s worth playing him, especially if there is a chance that they want to keep him long term. There is no point in aggravating an already existing injury and risking any long-term health issues.

The same goes for Stafford. It’s very unclear whether the upcoming rebuild is going to want to keep the current star QB and go with a quick turnaround, or part ways and go with a full rebuild.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, without Stafford—and Golladay for that matter—this team is going to be absolutely brutal to watch. If you at least want to see one more competitive game this year, then maybe you’re rooting to have the team at full health and give it another go, even if it means nothing.
