Minnesota will soon limit in-person activities in courthouses due to COVID-19.
The statewide order was announced Friday by Minnesota Supreme Court Chief Justice Lorie Gildea, and will begin Nov. 30 and will remain in effect for the next 60 days.
“The health and safety of our staff and judges and those we serve is our top priority,” Gildea said in a news release. “This order keeps our courts open and accessible to the people of Minnesota in a manner that prioritizes health and safety.”
The order includes several measures to limit in-person activity, such as holding hearings remotely if possible until Feb. 1. Jury trials that are currently in progress will continue until they are complete, but no new jury trials will take place until Feb. 1.
Appellate courts and civil commitments will continue as scheduled. Civil commitments are urged to done remotely if possible. Additionally, the courts will continue to accept filings in all case types.
