WEST LOOP — The Chicago Fraternal Order of Police union headquarters in the West Loop has been shut down because of the coronavirus.

The office building at 1412 W. Washington Blvd. is closed until further notice “due to COVID-19 related issues,” the union, which represents 8,200 Chicago Police officers, posted on its website Monday.

“The phone lines will still be operational for EMERGENCY purposes only,” the note reads.

“Please be advised the Lodge is taking every precaution necessary to ensure our staff and members are protected.”

FOP president John Catanzara could not be reached for comment on Tuesday regarding the closure. No other details were immediately available, including any specific information on positive COVID-19 tests.

More than 900 Chicago Police officers have tested positive for coronavirus. Chicago Police Supt. David Brown has said he expects that number to surpass 1,000 by the end of the year.
