Two strip clubs — one in Orlando and one in Panama City Beach — are the latest bars to face the consequences of a statewide crackdown on violators of a June 26 emergency order forcing bars to shut down in the face of mounting coronavirus cases.
Le Palace Otown on Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando and Show N Tail The Legend on Thomas Drive in Panama City Beach had their licenses suspended Friday evening by Halsey Beshears, secretary of the Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
Also on Friday, Beshears rescinded the suspension of the Knights Pub, a bar near the University of Central Florida that had been linked to 40 people who tested positive for COVID-19.
The shutdown order comes two weeks after Beshears ordered all bars that didn't sell food which were allowed to open on June 5 under Phase 2 of the state's Safe. Smart. Step-by-Step reopening plan, to stop selling alcohol for on-premises drinking.

It applied to any establishment licensed to sell alcohol for consumption on the premises but not to food.
In both cases, the clubs were found to disregard the lawful restrictions already imposed on their operations, and the DBPR found that "nothing short of outright suspension of the license is sufficient to protect the public health, safety and welfare."
In the case of Le Palace Otown, the suspension order said, the bar was in open violation of the terms of both the governor's executive order for Phase 2 as well as the DBPR emergency order shutting bars back down.
"Customers failed to observe social distancing guidelines and were in close proximity to each other and with adult performers," the order said.

They had been warned, too: After the terms of the orders and their consequences were explained to the manager, DBPR found the club open again on July 6 and July 10.
Instead of selling alcohol outright, Show N Tail on July 2 required patrons to pay a cover charge, which entitled them to a "free" alcoholic beverage and to "observe any adult entertainment," according to its suspension order.
After paying the cover charge, they were allowed to select their free beverage and drink it inside the club. A week later, the order said, the club was open and patrons were consuming alcohol on the premises and failing to observe social distancing guidelines.
In both cases, the orders said DBPR had the authority to suspend a license if there is an "immediate health to the public health, safety or welfare."
