An Atlanta man was killed Thursday morning after being thrown from an SUV that lost control and flipped several times in the northbound lanes of I-75 in Cobb County.
Police responded to the fatal wreck at the Barrett Parkway exit just before 7 a.m., Cobb police spokesman Sgt. Wayne Delk said.
According to police, a black Ford Expedition occupied by three adults and a juvenile swerved left to avoid a truck that switched lanes in front of it.
The SUV ran off the road before swerving back to the right and into the northbound lanes, where it rolled over several times. A man riding in the vehicle was killed after being ejected as the SUV flipped, police said. His name has not been released.
The driver and the other two passengers were taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital and are expected to survive.
The crash shut down the interstate for about 2½ hours as Cobb police investigated. The shutdown caused heavy northbound delays through Kennesaw as drivers crowded onto I-575 and Cobb Parkway to avoid the backups.
All lanes reopened shortly before 9:30 a.m.
The fatal crash remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call 770-499-3987.
